Fishing in Denver: local notes

Cheesman Canyon has no road; the main access is the Gill Trail off CR 126 near Deckers, about 3.5 miles alongside the canyon. A cable ~25 yards above the gauging station marks the no-fishing zone below Cheesman Reservoir.

Ideal Cheesman Canyon flows are 250-400 cfs; above ~700 cfs wading becomes difficult and dangerous.

Cheesman Dam (221 ft, built 1905) was Denver's first mountain water storage reservoir and sits about 60 miles upstream of downtown Denver.

Antero and Williams Fork reservoirs are listed as closed for 2026 on Golden Fly Shop's guide menu.
